For this new board, Rom av.JC revisits an iconic figure from the Greek pantheon: Athena, goddess of wisdom, the arts, and strategy. On the top of the board, Athena appears in a solemn pose, draped in the style of classical sculptures. But the eye is quickly drawn to a falsely cheerful element: the yellow smiley face, repurposed as a pop shield, a symbol of modern culture that contaminates ancient iconography. As is often the case with Rom av.JC, this simple contrast is enough to open up a narrative: between the mythological past and the image-saturated present.
The composition is based on a finely illustrated column, populated with miniature scenes reminiscent of Greek temple friezes. It depicts the ancient creative process of a skateboard workshop.
On the back, the dark wood is marked with a discreet engraved smiley face, like a minimalist signature hidden in the material. It’s too late to get your hands on one, as the board is unfortunately already sold out on the streetart.fr website.
